Finished Object: Mythos

And finally, we have a cardigan! The finishing for this one took me days, mainly because I was working a lot, and also partly because I was discouraged by my i-cord edging (I may have used the word ‘arse’ a lot, to both the long suffering Boy Thing, and Ravelry at large), but I got there in the end.

Pattern: Mythos by Laura Nelkin.

Yarn: Wired for Fibre Elizabeth in ‘Fate’, a bit under two skeins.

Needles: 5mm circular and double points.

The part where I waffle: I’m quite happy with how this came out. The pattern was fun to knit – I’m one of those who doesn’t mind getting stranded in stockinette wasteland, especially when there’s lovely yarn involved. The unusual construction was rather fun as well –  I find short rows very satisfying for some odd reason.

As mentioned above, I hit a bit of a snag with the i-cord edging. Not really a snag in the sense that I couldn’t do it – just a snag in the sense that I really didn’t like the way it looked. But I got over it, though I’ll probably opt for something different if I make this again. I’m mostly happy with the seaming – I used to be the World’s Sloppiest Seam Sewer, but I am mending my wicked ways, and I improve with every project. I actually enjoyed grafting the back – I am one of those odd people who thinks Kitchener stitch is fantastic and relishes an opportunity to graft things. Oh, and I didn’t end up whipstitching the bottom edge – I didn’t think it really needed it, and I was thoroughly sick of finishing by this point.

If I could do this over, I’d probably make the fronts smaller and the sleeves a little wider, but that comes down to my body type and not this pattern – the pattern was a pleasure to knit and very easy to follow. It’s marked as ‘piquant’ difficulty, but I honestly didn’t run into any parts that I would consider challenging. All in all, I’m very happy with this, and judging by the weather of the last few days I’ve finished it at just the right time to get plenty of wear out of it, so hurrah for that!

In other news, I think the universe somehow heard last post’s comment about how I liked the steampunk aesthetic but had never had the means to incorporate it into my wardrobe. When the Boy Thing and I went for a trip to Savers (a giant thrift store chain, for all of my non Melbournian readers), I found this waiting for me:

Fits perfectly. Now all I need is a dirigible, and I’m set!
